Because all processes are automated, varied policies can be chosen so that, depending on a customer’s priorities, backup can be set as little as every 15 minutes for crucial data, down to once a week for least important files. Data is moved offsite to secure, mirrored data centers; data is completely secure and protected at every step of the way, using stringent procedures, protocols, and standards. ALTOVAULT encrypts all data at the source using 256-bit AES encryption with a unique key.

For an additional layer of protection, ALTOVAULT uses the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol to establish a secure, resilient communication tunnel to the geographically separated offsite Altonet data centres located at Teraco in Isando, Johannesburg and Rondebosch, Cape Town, with automatic bi-directional mirroring of all stored data between the two sites.

• Unique DeltaRestoreTM Capability - Instead of restoring an entire file or database after corruption or an inadvertent change, ALTOVAULT restores only the data that has changed. For example, if a virus corrupts a few messages within a large Microsoft Exchange database, ALTOVAULT "rolls back" the database to its exact state at a point before the corruption.
• Optional TurboRestoreTM Appliance - This simple-to-install onsite appliance enables you to quickly recover large amounts of data while meeting stringent Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
• Data Shuttle Service - The ALTOVAULT Data Shuttle Service offers initial seeding, large restores, and disaster recovery for multiple terabytes of data quickly. ALTOVAULT Data Shuttle is available on demand by phone or email portal. In the case of a disaster, customers can have a fully restored server ready for them within hours of the disaster.
